A Reviving Reflection

My drive along Jersey Mountain Road each morning has to be the most glorious in Hampshire County! I so enjoy and feel blessed to experience this daily reminder of God the Creator. I am amazed to look east from Three Churches and witness the breathtaking view of the sun rising over the ridges and mountains at the softly glowing horizon, to catch the glistening dew off tall grasses and webs across the fences and fields, and to notice light steam rising off a nearby tranquil pond. Traveling on I come to a scene where a small red barn contrasts with nature’s green and brown hues. Where cattle are grazing throughout the rolling hills hemmed in by a patchwork of woods and ridges. Eventually I come to a magnificent westward view of a mountain line standing as a fortress and at its base a thick mist following the path of the snaking Potomac River. Wow! What a realization of the connectedness of God’s creation!
Seeing this daily reminder of God’s glory and majesty and power just amazes me but can also make me feel somewhat small in the grand scheme of the vast universe…that is until I am reminded of God’s great love for me. This frequent reminder motivates me to pursue him with a love and obedience deserving of my powerful, loving Heavenly Father. This soul reviving reflection brings to mind a passage my son Garrett often used as a life verse during the struggles of his high school days, Isaiah 40:28-30 says:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Life is full of twists and turns and challenges and hurts but this passage and my daily drive is a reminder to me that my God is truly “large and in charge.” He is all-powerful but, yet, full of mercy and love for me and my circumstances. I have only to yield to Him and be filled with his Spirit to work in me and through me as I commit each day to following his ways. This is the life that leads me to abundant joy and a peace that passes all understanding regardless of what is happening around me. What a wonderful reminder that the Creator of this amazing universe desires to walk with us through this life so that we might come to know him and his ways more completely!
